Life as a teenager is difficult enough without having to deal with the confidence crushing frustration of pimples and breakouts. There are a lot of things you can’t control while you are in high school but the good news is that you CAN control your acne! Many aspects of my job are rewarding but one of my favorites is seeing the life changing transformation that occurs when a teenager appropriately treats his or her acne.
Everywhere you look there are lotions, potions, creams, gels, masks, peels, pills, and even diets that claim to get rid of break outs. My best advice is to save your money and get yourself in to see a dermatologist! Every person’s skin and acne is unique and responds best to an individualized plan of attack. Like any medical concern, it is really important to determine the cause of breakouts before treatment. Between hormones, bacteria, oil production and possible underlying skin conditions, we can help figure out the cause and the best treatment for you.
Acne treatments range from medicated washes and topical products to antibiotics and isotretinoin. We also offer many adjunct therapies such as light based treatments, acne facials, extractions and peels performed by our talented aesthetician Nancy Foster (we love her!) The ultimate goal is to get your acne clear and stable so you can focus on other things besides your face. My colleagues and I at Sand Lake Dermatology Center would love to help!
